Role: Working within the Client's Platform Team you will been as the subject matter expert on the IaaS computer platforms for the Client. You will provide 3rd and 4th line technical diagnosis and resolution of incidents and service requests as well as undertake research and design activities.
You will provide a professional, integrated and effective platform support service to customers and internal delivery teams.
Collect, produce and share performance and capacity statistics, architectural artifacts and documentation and create or contribute to proposals, high and low level designs and other similar documentation.
Also to lead workshops and meetings with internal teams and stakeholders of designs and recommendations being proposed.
Essential skills/experience required:
In depth experience of VMware solutions and tools to include ESXi, vSphere, vMotion, HA and DRS at v5.5.
In depth experience of Veeam solutions and tools for backup, availability and replication.
Experience of installing and supporting solutions within environments, Government secured environments and a working understanding of the Government security marking scheme
Experience of working in an ITIL v2 or higher based IT Operational environment.
Experience of writing high and low level design document sets.
Experience of architecture, design, implementation, support and managing hosts and virtual machines within shared multi-client platforms, including: VMware, Windows based OS and Linux OS.
Experience of design, implementation and support configuration of various tools to manage and monitor storage in virtual environments.
Good networking knowledge.
Ability to work within an ITIL based service organisation (particularly where project work, planned and reactive maintenance activities interface with the ITIL service processes).
Demonstrable practical experience of delivering IT within Central Government
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Good report writing skills.
Good understanding of Central Government and OGD systems and HM Government security regulations.
You will also be involved in some project work too as you will lead the analysis, design and development of the IaaS compute platforms and solutions for internal/external customers. As the specialist in this area you will be able to deliver business, technical, service and commercial leadership in complex environments.
Initial projects that will be worked on include:
Plan and implement the upgrade of the existing VMware v5.5 platform up to the next appropriate version.
Review and improve the instrumentation of the compute platforms. This should include linking to the existing Microsoft SCOM solution.
Lead the development of the solution to produce enhanced reporting, monitoring and alerting of the compute platforms.
Review the current configuration of the compute platforms and feed in to the development of the compute strategic road map.
Implement Veeam into the Client's IaaS platform to provide application consistent backups.
Implement Veeam SureBackup and assist in the development of that to become a Service Catalogue item.
Create and maintain technical design and support documentation relating to internal and external customers systems.
