Test Manager (Trade Project)

Negotiable

REF: 54179/001_1523880194

We require a Test Manager to work on a new Trade Project which is producing new/modified system solutions to provide improved UK trade information as part of a specific Government programme.

Location: Newport, South Wales
Outside of IR35

Role Overview:
There are two distinct technology streams for the development of the systems - the first is an in-house development environment ; a configuration tool that overlays Oracle and SAS processes which is used for processing national accounts data. The second is a Python/Cloudera development environment which is being used to process data outside of the core national accounts scope. An agile approach based on Scrum is in use for the development activities; however due to the nature of the business model and the developed systems, means that delivery is more of an Agile/Waterfall hybrid and the testing process is a traditional "V" model approach.
The testing approach/process is complicated by the data/nature of the final product which requires analysis and modification to establish a "final" acceptable state for the data product.
JIRA and Confluence are being utilised for support of all aspects of the project and GiTHUB is being used for the Cloudera work.

Duties include:
Develop an overall test strategy and plan for all aspects of the project. This will cover the full development / testing life cycle of the project from Unit Test to Business Acceptance Testing and the range of solution components across the multiple technologies implemented.
Provide expert advice on all aspects of testing to all teams engaged in the project.
Facilitate knowledge and capability development for testing skills with the various teams and individuals that form the project team.
Working with Product Owners and Business Analysts; provide review and assurance on business requirement & acceptance criteria, to facilitate a quality testing approach.
Provide advice and guidance to the development teams (Python/Cloudera) on Unit Testing, Integration Testing and Systems Testing. The Development Technical Leads will be responsible for the completion of these activities by their teams, not the Testing Manager.
Carry out quality assurance on the Unit, Integration and Systems testing regime to provide confidence for the Project Manager and Project Board that these are suitable and progressing
Develop and manage the Business Acceptance Testing for the delivered solutions. This includes:
Detailed planning of BAT and the required scheduling of resources
Coordination of dedicated BAT testers (3 staff with some testing experience) and operational resources to achieve the testing
Coordination / collaboration with all stakeholders for the Trade BAT
Management of the Defect process between BAT and the development teams
Regular reporting on testing in general and the BAT specifically.
To demonstrate progress and issues on an empirical basis.
Review of the current / potential status of the usage / implementation of automated testing tools for both Python/Cloudera development environments. Produce a pragmatic strategy for the adoption of automated testing tools / processes in these environments. This strategy should address the overall National Accounts range of projects and initiatives.
Essential skills/experience required:
Expert knowledge and practical experience of the delivering of testing of complex systems and solutions.
Able to produce strategy, planning and the implementation of a rigorous testing regime.
Able to share opinion of more senior staff and gain the compliance and performance of development and testing staff
Self management and a proactive approach to achieving understanding and the development of approach in the allocated area of responsibility.
Able to provide practical advice on testing methods and tools for the automation of testing in a hybrid traditional/agile environment
Also be able to transfer knowledge and skills to internal staff.
